Mgt overview: It really depends on the length of time on the ventilator, support needed, and whether she can wean off the ventilator soon. The dilation will help until a trach can be performed. Babies who are born prematurely need more time for the lung to add new units. This growth then makes it easier for them to breathe on their own.

Air leak: Some degree of air leak is OK so long as there is adequate ventilation. It is preferable not to do a tracheostomy because very small size of baby . The neonatologist can elect to change to bigger size tube if ventilation becomes ineffective.
