Take your child to a Pediatric Dental Specialist (Pedodontist) as a 1st b'day present.

Look for naturals: Orajel naturals may be a better alternative. Many OTC topical pain relief gels contain benzocaine which can cause a rare condition called methemoglobinemia. I would recommend a chilled teething ring or pacifier or infants motrin if the pain persists.
