Some similar symptom: Best to ask your doctor why. It may be because both yeast vulvovaginitis and herpes genitalis can cause burning, swelling, itching and redness. He/she may have seen lesions on your vulva that they wanted to rule out as due to herpes rather than candida (yeast). Take care!

Ask the doctor!: Yeast infections sometimes can cause a similar appearance as herpes, especially with severe yeast causing fissures or sores. Since your yeast infection didn't clear up as quickly as usual, your doctor probably was just being careful to be sure about herpes. But the only way to know for sure is to contact the office and ask. I'm sure you'll get a direct and honest reply.
