Hospital based?: Often a major hospital will have "off campus" sites (ie ambulatory surgery, clinics, etc) that require a limited pharmacy. Thee are considered satellites. In addition, large institutions will have satellites in high drug use areas like operating rooms. The primary functions are to have medication quickly available and to reduce the burden of work in the centralized pharmacy.
