How long can serious anemia keep you hospitalized for?

Possibly several day: Depending on how severe the anemia is translates into effect on cardiac status. Below 8 gms. one needs outpatient transfusion to bring Hgb to l12. A low Hgb can be tolerated and improved with diet Fe++ and Procrit (epoetin alfa) . Ive had patients coming in with 4gm Hgb and while feeling weak still were functional. This level considered dangerous and patient admitted for transfusion.
