Depends.: A person can be allergic to any food, inc. spices. That is a possible negative effect. Cardamom's risks, benefits in dosages higher than that found in food are not known as there has been little research. There is the possibility that it, in high doses, can cause a "gall bladder attack," if you have gallstones. In the normal amounts used in foods, there is no apparent problem with this spice.
