A member asked:

What will happen if the thyroid gland is removed?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Thyroidectomy: If all/most of the gland is removed, you will become hypothyroid, which is easily treated with levothyroxine, and you will feel fine. Potential complications of surgery is removal of the parathyroids, or damage to the nerve to the vocal cords, but this is uncommon when performed by a surgeon who does this procedure regularly.
