A member asked:

What is the transparent layer in the eye that bends?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The cornea is: the anterior (front) portion of the eye. It is composed of five layers (a sixth layer has recently been discovered). It is optically clear, rigid and allows light to be refracted into the eye. The lens is inside the eye behind the iris and is optically clear. When young, the lens can change shape through the interaction of the ciliary body, helping to focus the light to the retina.
