Dr. Johanna Fricke answered

Specializes in Pediatrics - Developmental and Behavioral

BEFORE conception: Consume .4 mg. of Folic Acid daily to reduce risk of Neural Tube Defects & of Autism. A flu vaccine at least 2 mos. prior to conception & immunity to measles & rubella also reduce risk of Autism. Don't drink, smoke, use drugs or meds not okayed by your OB when attempting pregnancy because fetal organs form 3-8 weeks after conception. Early & regular OB care will guide you through pregnancy.
