Too high: Not an emergency but see your doc within the next few days. Many causes, some can be treated by diet, weight loss and exercise. Others will require med Rx. The rarer causes may actually be curable.

BP: 150/90 is elevated in a young woman. You should contact your doctor for a check up and evaluation

Maybe: Any strong odor -- particularly if it is offensive to you may increase your blood pressure. An allergic response to a volatile organic compound could in theory cause a lowering of blood pressure.

No: No, but some BP meds called cacium antagonists can cause gum disease as a side effect. These meds include Norvasc ( amlodipine), Cardizem ( diltiazem), and verapamil.

Blood pressure: Cuff around arm listening at elbow with person sitting comfortably with arm at heart level. Automatic cuffs are available with readings made two to three times in a row as ideal. High blood pressure is greater than 140/90.

A 25-year-old member asked:
What does it mean if an automatic blood pressure cuff will not register your blood pressure?
2 doctor answers • 4 doctors weighed in

Dr. Louis Grenzeranswered
Cardiology 55 years experience
Buy a new one: Most of the time that is because the cuff is not working properly. If your blood pressure were to low for it to register, you probably would not be around to know that. I would replace the batteries and if it still does not register, try taking someone elses blood pressure with it.

Home Machine: You can get home blood pressure machines at many pharmacys and retail stores. Consult with your doctor about most appropriate machine for you. When you get a machine, take it to your doctors appointment and check your blood pressure as compared with the office measurement.
