OTC Pain Meds: If you are not allergic to ibuprofen, take 600 mg of Advil every 4 hours. That's three over the counter 200 mg Advils. If there is swelling, Try to sleep with head elevated above heart and also cold packs over tooth area or sipping on ice water to vasoconstrict the area lessening inflammation and swelling. Keep the area as clean as possible with brushing and antiseptic mouth wash
