A member asked:

Can someone tell me how long will it take the lungs to heal once someone quits smoking?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Up to 5 years: The lungs will start to cleanse themselves of tar and nicotine the day you stop smoking. The increased cancer risk from smoking does not go away for up to 5 years. Most people will feel they can breathe better within 2-4 months of quitting smoking.
