Mgt/workup: Usually the swallowing study is performed with speech therapy, and they will study what sort of liquids that she can tolerate. As your mom recovers, her chest wall muscles will help with clearance of secretions. There is always a possibility of aspiration with the trach in place, but the study will help to determine the next best step in her recovery.
