A few things: Metatarsalgia is pain in the metatarsal heads, but other issues such as arthritis, nerve inflammation (neuroma) or stress or overuse injuries ( including tendinitis, stress fractures) can cause pain in the ball of the foot. Try resting, take an over the counter antiinflammatory (such as ibuprofen or naproxen) and make sure your shoes have enough cushion and support. If this doesn't help, see a Dr.

Metatarsal pain: The first right thing to do is see your podiatrist . While antiinflammatory drugs are nice they can mask symptoms of other problems.
