Uncontrolled Diabete: Diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema are serious, but the good news are that trials such as the dcct, edic, ukpds, accord, ukpds-hds, field have shown that if glucose levels, blood pressure, cholesterol, and lipids are controlled diabetic retinopathy can get better. Trials such as the etdrs, drs, drvs show that eye physicians (ophthalmologists) can improve eye disease with treatment.

Unfortunately not: Diabetic macular edema requires specific treatment. While controlling blood sugars is still the most important overall beneficial thing a diabetic can do for their health, it extremely rarely reverses macular edema. Please see a qualified retina specialist in your area, and you should get good recommendations and treatments.
