Despite having have 1 large and 2 small bowel movements today, i still feel the need to go. when i try i can pass very small stools. why is this?

Depending on: your age and duration of symptoms, this can be a worrisome sign. Unfortunately, a change in stool caliber can be a sign of stricture/scarring in the gut and even tumor (for at risk individuals). It could also be benign as in cases of constipation predominant IBS or transient infection with swelling of the gut wall. If ongoing, discuss this with a physician.
