Extremely...: it would be like having splinters deeply embedded in your skin and not doing anything about them. Gum disease or infections involve and area of "skin" about the size of the inside of your forearm. If this were red, inflamed and bleeding when you bumped it, would this concern you? Tooth and gum infections do not just stay in the mouth. They bacteria will spread to other parts of the body.
