Alcohol Neuropathy: Unfortunately, it can. Please start supplementing with B-complex vitamins with folate (folic acid) if diet may be an issue. It could also be another form of neuropathic change so please seek a physician for an exam and an NCV/EMG if necessary. Of course, stopping all alcohol (with help of prescriptions and AA, if necessary) could help you. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000714.htm

I agree with Dr. Cannon, but would also say that many other forms of support and counseling are available, including cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational enhancement group and individual treatment, as well as other forms of self-help, like Smart Recovery, LifeRing Secular recovery, Women for Sobriety and many others. Some people do well with 12 step groups, others have problems with them.
