A member asked:

Can you see gal stones in ultrasound of gal bladder even if gal bladder was contracted in the ultrasound?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Sometimes: It is possible to see stones in a contracted gallbladder however doing an ultrasound after a period of fasting is better as it allows the gallbladder to distend. The distended gallbladder is easier to see on ultrasound- and smaller stones can be picked up better. Other factors like obesity and having a lot of intestinal gas can sometimes obscure ultrasound pictures.
