Unrelated: An incompetent cervix rarely causes any problems before the second trimester. About 1/2 of all pregnancies have some bleeding in the first trimester. Half of these go on and have normal babies. The other half end up with miscarriages, usually because of something wrong with the baby. This is why cerclages aren't placed to treat incompetent cervix until after the ierst trimester. Hope this helps.
