Yes: try warm soaks with epsom salt and an antiinflaamatory,if he doesn't improve he should see a foot surgeon or rheumatologist who will start him on gout medication such as colchicine and indomethacin. then when the flare up is over he will keep him on a medication that will regulate him and prevent flare ups like allopurinol
