Ive smoked on and off for 8 years.what are the chances of having oral leukoplakia(pre malignant lesion in mouth) by the age of 25? would this be rare?

Very real: This would not be rare at all. You have racked up 8 years times the amount per day (measured in packs = ppd) .So, at one ppd you have accumulated 8 pack years. Multiply that by 365 days times 20 cigarettes per pack and get the total of 58,400 smokes.Think heat plus chemicals times how long it takes to smoke one cig and that is how much exposure your mouth has had. Be sure to be checked. Smart=Quit
