Unlikely: If you are smoker, tobacco chewer, etc, you may have precancerous leukoplakia or similar. SEE THE DENTIST!

You're right: It is rare. But never impossible. My previous advice still stands... have it examined. You want reassurance that your lesion is nothing to worry about, and that really can't be done over the internet. If it is there more than three weeks, have it examined by an oral surgeon.

Cancer can be Viral: The chances of developing oral cancer beenincreasing lately in the US and worldwide. Oral cancers are now being traced to the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). Forms of this virus have been known to cause cervical cancer for a long time. Now they have been discovered to be the source of cancers in the mouth and throat. Do yourself a favor and get a good oral cancer screening from your dentist!
