Hormone imbalance: Spotting or having prolonged menses in someone your age and not sexually active most likely suggests that you may not be ovulating regularly and have hormone imbalance, either from stress, thyroid dysfunction, or other causes. It is not uncommon in adolescence and often responds to a short intervention with hormone replacement, but you should get this checked out by your doctor or gynecologist.
