A member asked:

Can gram negative folliculitus be cured? how long is it safe to take ampicillin for this? likelihood of ampicillin curing gnf? thanks!

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Folliculitis: can be cured with antibiotics, but it can recur. It is usually due to gram positive bacteria (Staphlococci), however, if you are certain that this one is due to gram negative bacteria (by culture), then ampicillin is not the best antibiotic. The physician needs to select an antibiotic that works well for gram negative organisms
