No.: For the vast majority of patients, otitis externa (aka swimmer's ear) will not cause any facial nerve damage. Elderly patients, patients w/ poorly controlled diabetes, and immunocompromised patients are more at risk to develop malignant otitis externa. Left untreated, it has the potential to invade the bone around the ear and cause facial nerve damage. This is a rare condition.
