What's the likely cause of pain in the back of my heels after explosive movements (running, jumping)? i've tried rest, orthotics, stretching, etc.

Achilles: Could be achilles tendinitis which can put you at risk for achilles rupture ...Let your heel tell you what you can and can't do... Pain is the body's protective mechanism.

Several Causes: That area can have several problems and can happen togather. Achilles tendon injury, bursitsi, and even bone injury are on the list. Sounds like you need a podiatrist to tell you for sure.

Achilles Tendonitis: It sounds like you suffer from insertional Achilles tendonitis. I would advise a walking boot, physical therapy and an oral steroid. Many times cold laser therapy is very helpful.
