Risk of anemia: The biggest concern with prolonged menstrual bleeding is the risk of losing too much blood, this can cause anemia and in severe cases with very heavy bleeding can be life threatening. Your friend should drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration, and eat foods rich in iron to help avoid developing anemia. If she feels weak or lightheaded, or bleeding continues, she should see a doctor.
