MR may not see issue: You could have a normal appearing lumbar spine MRI and still have something irritating or impinging your S1 nerve. The MRI looks at the nerve root as it leaves the spinal cord and heads out through the neural-foreman. If the issue is subtle or not located in those areas your MRI would appear normal.
