Avoid use of alcohol: My best medical advice is not to drink alcohol when you are taking medication such as Xanax (alprazolam). Xanax (alprazolam) and alcohol are both addictive. When used in combination they have a very sedating effect and can cause respiratory suppression. Many deaths have occurred from this combination especially when combined with other drugs such as pain medications or opiates.
