Managed not cured: Many patients can get complete control of seizures with 1 or 2 anti-epileptic drugs. There may be complete resolution with no seizures; however, the epilepsy isn't cured as the patient is at risk of a seizure if the medicine is stopped. Some people with intractible epilepsy have a surgical procedure that can eliminate the seizures. Manypeople with epilepsy have their seizures managed, not cured.

Treated/not cured: People with epilepsy have more and better treatment options than ever before. There are now 20 antiepileptic drugs approved for use in the United States, and many more are in development. The use of surgery has been greatly refined, and new surgical techniques have been developed. People also may be treated with vagus nerve stimulation or the ketogenic diet in some cases.

Potentially: Epileptic seizures can only be cured if a neurosurgeon could remove the area causing the seizures. Otherwise, seizures can be managed with medication, vagus nerve stimulator, or avoidance to stimulants that trigger seizures such as flickering lights or other causes of sensory stimulated seizures
