Smaller procedure?: Most patients achieve seizure control with medicines. Ask your neurologist if a vagal nerve stimulator is appropriate for your seizures. It is surgery- but not brain surgery. There are also interesting trials of gamma knife radiosurgery (focused radiation treatment to achieve the same goal as surgery).

30% "cure" : Many patients with seizures stop having seizures and can be considered as being cured. Some do so by improved life style, some with simple medication, some with just outgrowing the risk. About 30% are unable to be controlled. A reasonable percentage of patients with appropriate form of epilepsy can be "cured" with surgery.
