Polycythemia: You're making too much hemoglobin probably because you are making more than normal numbers of red blood cells. This may be do to lung disease or chronic bronchitis from smoking or being at high altitude or hemoglobinopathies. Also a rare form of Proliferative disorder of the blood known as polycythemia vera.
