Involuntary movement: Dystonia is an involuntary muscle contraction, repetitive twisting, posturing whereas spasm is also sudden involuntary contraction of muscle groups. Generalized means all over and could indicate seizure activity. Dystonia on the other hand is more chronic, fixed if you will. Spasms may come and go.
