Stiffness & movement: In a parkinson disease (pd) patient, these two conditions are related. Dystonia is a sustained muscle contraction with twisting. Dyskinesia is an involuntary movement. In pd, in a patient who is having fluctuations from levodopa, a patient can develop dyskinesias or dystonia. There are also tardive dyskinesias which are involuntary movements that develop following neuroleptic exposure.
