Normal: Although most women's periods last 3-7 days it's not unusual for some women to have a period lasting only one day. The amount of bleeding is proportional to the thickness of the endometrium, which in turn is controlled by hormones from the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. Factors such as emotional stress, amount of exercise and diet can all affect the the hormonal balance and days of menstruation
