Neither?: Many centers do not even recommend a laxative before flexible sigmoidoscopy and simply suggest one (usually 2) prepared enemas (Fleet's) be done within 2 hours before the procedure. It often helps to have a day of clear liquids before. I think most people believe mag citrate is "stronger" than milk of magnesia, (magnesium hydroxide) but, again, neither may be necessary.
