Increase of CKD: Chronic kidney disease (ckd) is not epidemic, although it is increasing. More than 20 million people in the us have it. It is due to better treatment of hypertension and diabetes allowing patients to live long enough to develop it. Another factor in causing it is the increased rate of obesity and diabetes. Modification of the diet of us population needs to be done to decrease the increase in ckd.

DM, HTN, Age, & eGFR: I agree whole-heartedly but I do believe there is a reasonable explanation. With our nations epidemic of obesity has come an increase in hypertension & diabetes and we also have the baby boomers and aging the america thus all three major causes of CKD have increased. Along with this has come the reporting of the egfr; which has caused we as providers to more easily diagnose stage 3 ckd.
