Determine cause: Chronic dry cough is most commonly due to 3 conditions: asthma, post-nasal drip, or GERD (heartburn). You might have one or a combination of all three. Post-viral cough is also very common and can last for weeks. Further workup by allergist is helpful as they can perform a more detailed assessment including skin testing and pulmonary function testing. Treatment will depend on cause.

Dry cough: It depends on what the cause of the cough is. It can be reflux esophagitis with a sour taste in the mouth and heartburn, asthma worse at night, allergies related, or an upper respiratory infection of some kind, among other things. If a smoker, stop now. There is online helplines and many aids available. Herbal tea with honey and Delsym (dextromethorphan) help relieve cough symptoms from colds. TB needs ruled out.
