Non smoker, i have an uri for 8 days now.... how do i get rid of this dry unproductive cough, nothing coming up! prescription for hydrocodiene syrup not helpin?

Allergic rhinitis: After a uri, sometimes the sinuses and the nasal mucosa are revved up, produce little mucous enough to cause irritation or frank itching of the throat leading to cough, worse on recumbent position. Suppressing cough is not always the answer. Ask your doctor as treating the cause with antihistamine or nasal antiinflammatories may be of help.

See your doctor: After 8 days it is not a usual uri, and may be complicated by a sinus infection or some other respiratory problem. I would see your doctor or health care provider for an examination, and maybe a chest film.
