A member asked:

What's the cause of newborn acrocyanosis?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Acrocyanosis: Acrocyanosis in newborns is primarily due to an immature circulatory system. The peripheral vascular system performed exceedingly well at shunting blood towards the heart with certain stimuli, such as cooler temperatures. This is a benign and common finding, only of concern when accompanied by CENTRAL cyanosis (bluishness of the lips, tongue and oral tissues) and/or an overall mottled appearance.
