Yes: I manage patients with chronic neck and head pain and you can definitely sprain your neck that way.

Perhaps.: You may have injured the neck similar to whiplash if you were walking very fast and the speed of impact was high.If normal walking , you likely just strained some muscles.I would take ibuprofen for the inflammation and pain, and consider ice for 24 hours then heat thereafter.Control the swelling and then encourage blood flow to help the strain.Be sure your head is well supported while sleeping.
