Yes: Adrafinil is the first of a class of drugs in the "alerting" class. Adrafinil is the prototype, available in Europe. Newer (more expensive) analogs (Modafinil [Provigil] and Armodafinil [Nuvigil]) are available in the US). The newer drugs are more potent--but all are very safe. One rare side effect is Stevens-Johnson syndrome, which can be serious. Watch for rash--discontinue if it occurs.
