Great question.: "Hip pain" can be felt in a few places, the hip itself, the groin, or radiating to the knee. What is oft mistaken as hip pain is radicular or nerve pain from a low back problem, and this is felt in the buttock and down the leg, NOT often in the low back like one might expect. another possibility is sciatic nerve compression. The best way to figure this out is with an exam by your primary MD.
