Mind not blank: Many people seem to think when you meditate your mind is supposed to go blank and if thoughts come up you are doing it wrong or can not meditate. I have meditated for 37 years and my mind never goes blank—it is the nature of our minds to be active. When this happens bring your focus back to your breathing and whatever sound or image you are focusing on. It works despite distractions.

Ignore: You don't have to meditate for several hours to gain benefits. Meditating for 10-15 minutes helps.
