It can be dangerous: A 5-6 cm complex cyst in your age group (21 years, correct?) is unlikely to be cancerous, but not 100% impossible. At this size there is no "stock" answer, but prompt surgical removal should be considered. "Severe" pain, what does that make you think? Only a doctor who has examined you in person can make this decision, but you might want to call yours again. Sincere good wishes.
