Late period: may be a few days early for the urine test to be positive. check blood test, check thyroid function. if period does not come for another 2 weeks and HCG is the negative consider sonogram to look at uterus /ovaries and consider prolactin level. Sometimes there is variation in period

Could be...: It is possible to have negative pregnancy tests and still be pregnant especially if they are home based tests. If it is an early pregnancy this is a possibility. For confirmation you would probably need a blood test if you are very suspicious of being pregnant. The most common symptom is lack of or abnormal period, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, breast soreness, to mention the most common.
