Calcium: Taking calcium usually does not cause hardening of the arteries or build up of calcium in the blood vessels. This usually occurs for many other reasons including genetic predisposition, high blood fats and cholesterol and other factors. If you have a condition which results in high serum calcium levels you should not take it.
