It depends: It all depends on your pharmacogenetics. In other words, it depends how your body metabolizes the medications. It may take several days to several weeks

Celexa, (citalopram) 3 month: Studies have shown the maximum effectiveness of citalopram in treating depressive disorder is after about 3 months with a dosage 40 mg once daily. Of course it depends on the person, and what types of symptoms or side effects are of greatest concern.
