After: Calcium can make it harder to absorb some of the nutrients in your prenatals. So ideally, wait a couple hours and then have some milk.

Is it safe to take more than one prenatal vitamin per day?

Why?: You should stick to your doctor's advice; i generally recommend avoiding more than 1 pnv pill daily mainly due to concerns about hypervitaminosis a - possible teratogen. You can take additional Folic Acid and calcium/iron as needed though, on top of the regular pnv dose.

All the same: The extra vitamins, minerals and iron that are required during pregnancy are all available in the appropriate amounts in any over the counter adult multivitamin. There is nothing extra special or better about a prenatal. A higher price does not mean it is better for you.

No.: No ! they are cuter but not better for you. Don't break the bank on these- a generic or over the counter prenatal is fine.

A female asked:

Can I take prenatal vitamin with milk?

Dr. Julie Abbott

Probably ok: But some labels suggest avoiding dairy intake two hours before or after taking the vitamin. This could be due to an increased likelihood of GI intolerance (more gas, bloating, discomfort) or the presence of calcium in the milk impairing iron absorption slightly. I would take my prenatal vitamin with juice or water. Hope your pregnancy goes well:)
